Pittsburgh, No Longer An Old Steel City

Pittsburgh has come a long way from the once billowing smoke clouds and dirty steel mills to becoming one of the most livable cities in the US. Pittsburgh offers affordability, great education, a diverse culture, and has transformed into a well rounded travel destination. Satisfying travelers interests, the “€˜Steel City”€™ offers a wide variety of things to do from the arts and food scene, to sports and outdoor activities.

Pittsburgh, known as the “€˜City of Champions”, is a great place to catch a sports game, whether it be a Penguins hockey game in the winter, a Pirates baseball game in the spring, or a Steelers football game in the fall. Even if professional sports isn’€™t your thing, the city views and pierogies from PNC Park, the MLB field, make it worth spending at least a couple of innings at.

Foodies can indulge in Pittsburgh’€™s impressive food scene. Each neighborhood of Pittsburgh has unique and delicious restaurants to try. For an impressive view of the city, take a ride on the incline, Mt. Washington’€™s inclined rail car, which is lined with restaurants over-looking the city. Travelers can also dine in Market Square, located in the middle of the city, before heading to an evening event. Many new restaurants have been popping up all over, so don’t hesitate to ask a local for a recommendation, they will be more than happy to offer their personal favorites.

For travelers who also want to feed their minds and imagination, a visit to the quirky, ever changing, Andy Warhol museum, or the inspirational Mattress Factory, that features artwork from live-in artists from around the world, are great options. A show at Heinz Hall, home of the Pittsburgh International Orchestra, is another beautiful attraction.

If traveling with children, The Children’s museum and Carnegie Science Center will be a big hit on a rainy day. If the weather approves, explore one of the many outdoor parks, such as Frick Park and Schenley Park for hiking, biking, or playing frisbee golf.

Besides being a haven for locals, Pittsburgh is proven as a hidden gem, that once found, can be treasured as a travel destination for all different types of travelers.
