Position Statement – Boeing Airplane Crash

On Sunday, March 10, 2019, a Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft crashed, killing 157 people onboard. It was the second crash of a Boeing 737 Max 8 in the past five months, leaving many travelers concerned over the safety of the jets, and causing countries and airlines to ground the planes.

What you need to know about your policy:

Following the crash, many aviation regulators and airlines worldwide are grounding the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. Unfortunately, there is no coverage under the Trip Cancellation benefit within any Tin Leg policies.

The only available coverage for Tin Leg Adventure, Standard, or Luxury policyholders is Travel Delay. Tin Leg Economy policyholders are not eligible for coverage under Travel Delay.

Travel Delay Coverage for the Boeing 737 Max 8 Crash:

In order for a delay to be covered under the Travel Delay benefit for the Tin Leg Adventure, Standard, or Luxury policies, it must be classified as a common carrier delay, and it must last at least 6 hours. If the delay reaches that point, travelers may be refunded the expenses incurred for meals and accommodations during the delay.
